Self-Care Ideas for Spring
By Modern Woman Blog Founder, Joelle Larade
Spring is generally a season that brings along a feeling of fresh energy that makes us more likely to work on ourselves and areas of our lives that we want to improve. While this kind of energy can be very productive, we must not forget to take care of ourselves in the process. Self-care is an ongoing process that should be practiced year-round, not only when you "think" you could use it. Self-care is most effective when it's practiced regularly! If you needed a good reason to rest and recharge this weekend, you're welcome!
Here are a few ways you can take time for yourself this spring.
1. Go on a Nature Walk

Spending time in nature can be a great way to recharge and can have a real positive impact on your health. There's something about being surrounded by trees, in the sunshine, with the fresh air blowing against your face that just makes you feel so refreshed. Gather up your girl friends, pick a trail and get out there!
2. Get a Spring-Inspired Mani

One of my favourite self-care activities is getting my nails done or doing them myself. There is nothing I love more than a nice pastel colour for spring. Think pastel pinks, blues, yellows, greens and purples. You can go out to your favourite nail salon (ours is The Ten Spot) or you can stay home and do your own mani! The secret to a great at-home mani is having the right tools. We only use CND Vinyl Weekly nail polishes. They last up to a week! Whichever option you choose, your nails will be ready for spring and you can check off your self-care box!
3. Plant a Garden

Gardening can be so much fun and so rewarding! It's a great activity to keep your hands and your mind busy, making it a great self-care activity.
Now, if you're thinking that planting a garden is WAY too ambitious, hear me out: a garden can mean whatever you want it to mean. It can be a half-acre field, a raised bed, a window box or an indoor mini herb garden. Make it manageable for you.
4. Spring Clean Your Closet

I don't know about you, but cleaning and organizing is definitely a form of self-care for me. I find it really therapeutic and having a clean, organized space gives me a sense of peace.
The first space I tackled this season was my closet! I was tired of seeing my big chunky winter sweaters and I was ready to put them in storage. So I removed all my heavier winter clothing and swapped it out for a few lighter spring and summer pieces. My closet looks so much happier now!
5. Get Yourself a Bouquet of Flowers

Nothing says spring quite like a bouquet of fresh flowers. Treat yourself to a bouquet of your favourite spring flowers! Not only will it lift your mood, it'll freshen up your space and bring some life into it. Trim the stems at an angle and place them in a pretty vase of water when you get home. When they start getting a bit wilted, press and dry the petals. You can frame the petals or repurpose them into another self-care activity like bath salts or bath bombs.
6. Spring Clean Your Morning Routine

What does your morning routine look like right now? If your answer is non-existant, it's time to create one! Morning routines can be hard to establish, especially if you have other people depending on you in the morning. There's no need to have an elaborate morning routine where you lounge around in silk pyjamas and do a 10-step skin care routine followed by a 20 minute meditation. Do what works for you. Maybe that's waking up 15 minutes before everyone else to enjoy your coffee in peace. Maybe that's splurging on a lux bath product you can use in your morning shower. Maybe it's applying a fun lip colour to top off your makeup look. Do whatever will add a little joy to your morning!
Voilà! You now have an arsenal of self-care ideas to keep you feeling fresh and energized all spring long.
